What are the Best Protein Bars? Our Top 5 Protein Bars

Introduction

There are many protein bars on the market currently, some good some not, some nice some not some cheap…….most not. We all have our favourites and in this article I will be listing my top 5 favourites and why. So let’s get started. What are the Best Protein Bars?

Please remember all prices and nutritional information is correct at the time of writing.

MyProtein Dark Chocolate and Sea Salt Carb Crusher

MyProtein Carb Crusher - The Best Protein Bars

MyProtein have recently gone through a few changes, the main one is that they have updated their look (Which we love) they have also added a few new flavours and products, this protein bar is an old favourite but in a new flavour, Dark Chocolate and Sea Salt. Let me first tell you that the flavour is spot on, You get both the chocolate and the sea salt and the texture is crunchy and totally edible. I have no issues eating one of these with a cup of coffee for a morning snack.

Macro wise if you are cutting these are perfect because as the name implies they are carb Crusher they have very few carbs, high protein and low fat. So overall an average  calorie bar. The Macros are as follows:

  • Protein: 21g
  • Carbs: 12g
  • Fats: 8.2g
  • Kcals: 212Kcal

As you can see they are low carb, which makes them a great if you are falling short on protein.

Price wise they are not too bad, As everyone knows there are hundreds of MyProtein discount codes out there, You only got to search through instagram for a bit to find on. Using one of these codes or waiting for a sale you can pick a box (12 Bars) for a really good price. They retail at £19.99 for a box of 12 which makes them £1.60 per bar but you can get them in sales and grab them from as low as £10 a box, which would make them around £0.80 per bar.

Overall i would highly recommend these bars when the sale is on or if you have a discount code. Defiantly one of  the Best Protein Bars.

Tesco’s Vanilla Crunch

Tescos Active Protein bar - The Best Protein Bars

Next in the list is the Tescos on brand Vanilla Crunch, these bars are about as close as you are going to get to the Best Protein Bars. Cheap, great macros, amazingly tasty! The perfect bar.

Macro wise they are slightly higher calories than the other but still under 300 Kcals per bar. The fact that they are slightly higher calorie makes them amazing pre workouts bar, high energy and protein makes them perfect fuel for those workouts. The macro breakdown is as follows:

  • Protein: 21.1g
  • Carbs: 25.7g
  • Fats: 9.9g
  • Kcals: 277Kcal

Price wise they are alright, they tend to be on offer where you can get 2 for £2, works out at £1 each. For a protein bar that isn’t too bad, The only down side of these bars is that they are very popular…..so can be hard to find or sold out. If i see them i tend to buy a whole box or maybe a few!

Grenade Jaffa Quake

Grenade Carb Killer - Jaffa Quake - - The Best Protein Bars

Personally these are my favourite bar, if it wasn’t for the price, Which we will get onto in a minute, I would have a huge stock of these. Grenade bars in general are all nice they have loads of flavours and are releasing more and more every year. But the two top two in my opinion are the Peanut Nutter, again we will look at that one in a minute, and the Jaffa Quake. This bar, to me at leat, taste exactly like Jaffa Cakes. Which is my favourite Cake/Biscuit ever. They have al lovely texture and a lovely after taste which make these bars the most popular in the fitness industry, It’s just a shame about the price, but before we talk about price lets talk about macros:

  • Protein: 21.8g
  • Carbs: 16.2g
  • Fats: 7.9g
  • Kcals: 215Kcal

As you can see these are fairly high calories, they break the 200kcal mark for a bar. But on the plus side they do contain a fair amount of protein, while keeping the fats fairly low. Now lets talk about Price…….sad times.

Price wise they are expensive, Speak to anyone about Grenade bars and they all come to the same conclusion, Very tasty but very expensive. The long and short of it is if you can find them for less than £2 a Bar, you better grab a few. They are sometimes on discount in various supplement shops and I have known places like Holland and Barretts sell them for something like 2 for £2. Which is a bargain of a deal.

Grenade Peanut Nutter

Grenade Carb Killer - Peanut Nutter - The Best Protein Bars

There isn’t a lot to say about this bar that isn’t said above. These are greats bars and I think everyone will need to try them. There is a bar out there for everyone. This one is amazing, As a massive peanut butter fan this one appeals to me massively. Now this bar isn’t trying to be a Reece’s Piece, it has a slightly different flavour than those. As far as the macros go, they are pretty similar to the bar above, they all vary slightly but here is the breakdown:

  • Protein: 21g
  • Carbs: 15.4g
  • Fats: 9.3g
  • Kcals: 223Kcal

Again the only downside to these bars is the price. As already stated try to find them on offer and you should be able to pick up a good bargain. If not just by 1 or 2 for now.

LDNM Protein Wafer

LDN Muscle - Protein Wafers

Ok lets first address the elephant in the room, this is not technically a protein bar but they are so good. Like really good so they are a competitors for one of the Best Protein Bars. Like you need to go get a pack right now good! Texture and flavour makes you feel like they shouldn’t be healthy but they are.

They taste like a Blue Ribbon chocolate bar but with more of a ‘Wafery’ Flavour. They last for a long time, if you can resit eating them that is.

Macro wise these are great, great macros for the taste. under 200 calories per bar. high in protein and low in fat make them the perfect day to day snack. Most people will be able to fit a few of these in their daily Macro’s, and with their low fat they are guilt free.

  • Protein: 15g
  • Carbs: 12.8g
  • Fats: 9.4g
  • Kcals: 197Kcal

As far as price goes these are £17.99 for a box of 12. So they are around the standard price for protein ‘Bars’. Now the experience I have had with these is that when they go out of stock they can take a while to come back into stock. So I would get a few boxes if you can afford it. Another tip is have a look on the companies instagram (LDN Muscle) they are always giving away discount codes.

Update: Currently it looks like these aren’t in stock or are not being sold. Maybe they will return shortly.

Conclusion

So as you can see there are many Protein bars on the market currently. Our advice would be not to rely on them too much, due to the price I would treat them as a treat or snack. Unless you get a good deal on a box then having two or even one a day can get expensive, saying that if you are looking at having 1 a day I would look into buying them in bulk, and for that I would go to My Protein, they have some amazing deals and you will be able to get 2 boxes for not a lot of money.
